FREE Online Course> Personal Preparedness

[This is a great course sponsored by University at Albany, for emergency responders; how to take care of ourselves and our families, so we can deploy when needed.  The course states it will take about 1 hr to complete, but it took me about 1.5.  It is different from the FEMA IS22; in that this course is geared towards the emergency responder.  It is not directed at medical personnel, it is a course for everyone.  CEU/CME = 1 credit hr., all done in the convenience of your home and free!  Enjoy!]

Overview

Disasters can strike anyone, anytime, and anywhere. Community volunteers, hospital workers, and public health staff members may be called on to help with a community response to a disaster. In order to respond effectively in such an emergency, these workers must have plans in place to be sure their families, other dependents, pets, etc. are cared for. This course provides a step-by-step process for developing a family disaster plan and a personal emergency plan.

Audience

This course is intended for anyone who might be called to respond to an emergency that might keep them away from home for an indeterminate period of time, including public health or healthcare professionals and volunteers, such as members of the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) or Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT).

Objectives

After completing this course, the learner will be able to describe:
  • The importance of a Family Disaster Plan and a Personal Emergency Plan
  • The elements of a Family Disaster Plan
  • The elements of a Personal Emergency Plan
  • How these plans might function in different emergency situations
